Daniel E. Sabath [M.D., PH.D.]

Dr. Sabath received an A.B. in Biochemistry from Harvard College in 1982. He received his M.D. and Ph.D. (Immunology) degrees from the University of Pennsylvania in 1989. Dr. Sabath's postgraduate training included a residency in Clinical Pathology and a fellowship in Hematopathology at the University of Washington affiliated hospitals in Seattle, WA from 1989-1993. Dr. Sabath is currently an Assocate Professor of Laboratory Medicine and Adjunct Associate Professor of Medicine (Division of Medical Genetics) at the University of Washington School of Medicine. He is Head of the Hematology Division in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and is Director of the clinical hematology laboratories. Dr. Sabath's primary clinical activities are supervising the red cell disorders and molecular diagnostics laboratories. Dr. Sabath's research interests include developing new molecular diagnostic tests, including tests to detect minimal residual disease in breast cancer developing custom gene expression microarrays for lymphoma diagnosis, and DNA sequence-based tests for hemoglobin disorders. His basic science interests concern the structure and function of the thrombopoietin receptor and regulation of gene expression in hematopoiesis.
